Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What can we do to leave our planet a better place than we found it? That’s the question I asked 20 second graders on the first day of Earth Club. Since then, my Planet Protectors and I have been in search of the answer to this question.
The school is a K-5 elementary public school.
The majority of the students are English Language Learners. Many of them live locally in the neighborhood of the school. Many of their families are from Latin American countries such as: Columbia, El Salvador, Peru and Brazil. All of our students receive free or reduced price school lunch. This exploration is part of our school’s Extended Learning Time enrichment. Each second grader in our school will have the opportunity to become a Planet Protector by the end of the year.
My Project
With these materials students would be able to learn even more about our amazing planet and the plethora of reasons to protect it. With our very own indoor garden, students will have the opportunity to observe nature right in our own classroom and see how fun and easy it is to plant seeds and care for plants. Through the stories we will get, we will learn all about the environment and how we can help make the world a better place.
What can we do to leave our planet a better place than we found it?
As we comb through what it means to reduce, reuse and recycle, we are discovering all that we can do to protect our planet.
