My students need a carpeted space to sit on rather than cold, hard tile to make them feel more welcome and comfortable when we have center time in music.
I teach at a Title 1 Elementary school in East Tennessee. Many of my students are considered to be a part of our community's poverty level and would rather come to school than have to stay at home. Being in school provides a safe, loving environment where they are provided a hot meal every day.
What I love the most about being a music teacher is that I have the opportunity to get to know and spend time with all of the students in our school.
This enables me to be a positive influence to all of the students who walk into my classroom. Scientists have found that music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other human function. With that, I find that music can encourage brain development and provide learning opportunities through song, dance, and movement.
Our elementary school provides opportunities to develop the whole child so that they may thrive academically, socially, behaviorally, physically, and emotionally. Music can help develop all of these. Music provides the diversity for students to shine who may not be as successful in an academically conventional classroom. I have seen first hand that music truly can change the world!
My Project
I have an EXCELLENT music room! There is a large space for plenty of movement and separation for stations. However, the floor in the room is tile. I would be thrilled to have this rug for my students.
Having a rug will provide a comfortable area for students to sit anytime we have reading, floor time, or movement.
I adore the design of this rug for many reasons. The colors and pictures would help bring my music classroom to life! Also, we do a lot of movement in music that include circle formations, and with this rug being round, it will give the students guidelines for staying within the circle during these types of activities. The students will also have specific, individual placements when we have carpet time.
I am blessed to be able to have every student in the school come to my room every week. Therefore, every student will be able to benefit from this being a lovely addition to the music room!
