Help me give my students sea life, mammals and birds specimen discovery centers, science specimen sorting centers, working stethoscopes, Lakeshore liquid discovery tubes, prisms, mirrors, magnets, eye droppers, and tweezers.
At our school, we firmly believe that all children, no matter what their cognitive levels are, have the capacity to learn. Through this belief, we as teachers are constantly finding creative and new learning approaches to help our students be successful.
This year I will be working with twenty-one amazing 4-year-old preschool students attending our full day preschool program.
These students are either attending preschool for the very first time or transitioning from half-day to full day. The students come from various cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds which lends itself to a diverse classroom environment. The students also have different learning preferences whether it is visual, kinesthetic or auditory.
Regardless of their backgrounds and their learning preference, all of the students are eager to learn and explore their world around them. My goal is to give them as many tools as possible to become active and engaged learners.
My Project
My preschoolers need materials to help supplement their science/discovery area within the classroom. With the materials I am requesting, they will be able to explore within the areas of life science and physical science.
The science materials requested will allow for hands on exploration and a lot of opportunities for the students to ask "why?" and want to explore further.
The mammal, bird and sea life specimen kits contain xrays, bones and information that will encourage the students to explore the differences between the animals and will lead to further conversations about the different habitats.
The real working stethoscopes can help to encourage students to have curiosity on how their bodies work. The other materials such as the magnets, mirrors, prisms, flashlights, sorting mats, eye droppers and tweezers will encourage the students to explore the characteristics of the world around them. Within the science area already, the students have sea shells and other collections of items. The items I have requested will encourage the students to take a closer look at these items as well as wanting to start collections of their own to explore.
