My students need enriching self-checking activities such as the Reading Comprehension Bingo Library, Reading Match Ups, and the Hot Dot Reading Comprehension Set.
Every morning, my students chant, "Yo ho ho, we're so cool, we are pirates and we love school!" So begins another busy day in our classroom.
I teach in a rural consolidated school.
Many of my students have a long bus ride both to and from school. The boys and girls are very motivated to learn. They love to be active and to complete reading station activities that help them develop the skills they need to be successful, independent readers.
My Project
The items I am requesting (the Reading Comprehension Bingo Library, Reading Match Ups, and the Hot Dot Reading Comprehension Set) will be used during our ninety minute reading block. The students will use these items as independent practice stations. These station activities are perfect for our ninety minute reading block because they engaging to keep the students interested and on task. They are also meaningful since they're related to our units of study, easy to understand, and self-checking. The immediate feedback the students will receive when working with these materials will b very helpful for the learners.
My students will benefit from having these materials because their reading skills will be strengthened by the practice opportunities provided.
They will come to enjoy reading more as they will be more skillful. In addition, they will associate reading with the pleasant experiences they will have working with these items. I know my "pirates" will love school even more when their days involve working with fun and exciting station activities.
