Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students really love coming to school. Our school is a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch which means that our students come from low income families. They deal with a lot of stress at home and that stress most often comes with them when they enter the school building.

In my classroom, I focus on capturing the hearts of students by building meaningful relationships with each child.Having a positive impact on our students is very important to every person who works at our school.

We know that the stress that the kids bring with them from home can greatly impact how they learn. Teachers and staff strive each and every day to make sure that we speak to students in the hallways, we shake their hands as they enter the classrooms, we sit and talk with students at lunch, and play with them at recess. We understand that our students come first. We understand that in order for us to be able to teach them, they have to feel safe and loved by the people around them. Each teacher at my school genuinely loves teaching!

My Project

I'm a first-year teacher who gained a classroom with extremely limited literature. It is my goal to fill my library with grade level appropriate texts across all genres. I have noticed this year in particular, that nonfiction texts are our greatest area of need! We have limited non-fiction resources currently, and are always looking to expand.

Please help provide my students with access to a variety of nonfiction texts in our own classroom library.

With the ability to engage in nonfiction texts, students will practice with text features, different text structures, and understanding true information about a variety of factual topics.

This project includes nonfiction texts on multiple different topics that students can use for research and in independent reading. Help build my classroom library to benefit the needs of all students and their interests!
