Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school where many of the students are economically disadvantaged. They have all experienced much in their young lives, yet they are so hardworking and eager to learn.
I will be teaching math and science to two classes of second graders this year.
Right now I have one class of in school learners and one class which is learning virtually from home. All of my students, including those considered gifted/talented, those with dyslexia, and those who are in ESL and special education programs, should have the tools that they need to be successful.
I want to excite my students about learning and improve their math skills. I like to provide my students with experiences and lessons to encourage their success. It is important that my students are engaged in fun, exciting, and challenging activities whether they are distance learning or with me in the classroom..
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will be added to a math pouch that I have created for my remote learners. The mini dominoes will be used when adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers. The playing cards can practice odd/even numbers, computation, and place value. Games using dominoes and playing cards will be sent home so that my students can practice in a fun way and even play with other family members. The large pouches will hold the game boards and other dry erase board activities that were funded in a previous project. The smaller pouches will hold dry erase markers and game pieces. Thank you for helping me put these materials into the hands of my virtual learners.
Now when I model these activities on screen, my students can actively participate with their own set of math materials at home!
