Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I recently introduced my students to ping pong, and it surprised me how many of them had not even heard of it. It also surprised me how it took off. All of a sudden the students wanted to play all the time. That is when I thought it would be great to have a ping pong table.
I teach in a high poverty neighborhood where many of the students do not get the same breaks that other students their age get.
Many of my students do not get many of the experiences that many of us take for granted. So, the little things we do for them means a lot to them. Little things like new equipment gets them very excited.
My Project
I am requesting a ping pong table and ping pong balls that will be used by everyone in the school, but the after school teen clubs will probably get the most use out of it. Right now the students play ping pong on our small rectangle tables and love it. I thought it would be great if I could get a real table for them. That is where you can help because our budget does not allow for it.
My project is important because our teen program keeps the students off the street.
It would add another activity for the students to do when they stick around after school.
Many times the students are involved in the program in the beginning and then quit. I think if I can make it more fun and interesting to them, then the club will have an impact on more students. That is where your donation will make a huge impact on my students.
