Pillowcases for Patients

Help me give my students sewing supplies, cutting mats and scissors, so they can provide young patients in long-term care with a custom-made pillowcase.

My Students

Our students are incredibly kind and generous and we have been through so much together in the last year. Throughout storms and flooding, school safety scares and fires on our campus, they push on. Their compassion towards others and spirit to help those in need really shines through. Even when they personally can't give, they want to know how they can help. I want to nurture their sense of community involvement and give them more opportunities to reach out to others.

My Project

Kids in this special interest class will get to learn the lost art of sewing. And in the process, they'll be making pillowcases for young patients that are in long- term care in hospitals. We will hand-make standard size pillowcases and visit a local hospital to deliver their products. There, they will get to see how a simple gift and a brief visit can really change a patient's demeanor. I hope that my students and the patients will find joy in this project. We will need fun, bright and colorful cuts of fabric to make standard sized pillowcases. Other supplies needed are: scissors, large cutting mats and brightly colored thread.
