Pillowcases for Comfort and Style

My Students

My students live in a rural community. The students come from diverse backgrounds and have a strong desire to learn and be challenged in new and exciting ways! They seize opportunities and are excited by new perspectives and additions to our classroom.

Classroom instruction includes highly engaging, hands-on activities to keep students focused and motivated.

My students are in need of opportunities to build a strong educational foundation that will benefit them their entire lives. They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.

My Project

I teach sections of life skills students and want to incorporate a unit on fibers and fabrics. We plan to use the pillowcases in a tie dye lesson where students will manipulate the fabric on their own, promoting fine motor skills. They will then choose a color scheme and apply the dye. While the dye sets, we will discuss stains and caring for clothing. When the pillowcases are done dyeing, we will discuss the steps to doing laundry, promoting independence in the home. When complete, students can take home their pillowcases and use them in their own rooms!
