Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I've been working at P.S 18 for over nine years! Currently I am serving our students as a math teacher. Since our students have a difficulty focusing and understanding the tasks ahead of them, I need to constantly motivate them. As part of a Money Unit, I would like to provide our students with "Piggy Banks". This would help our students and parents greatly in two ways. First, a piggy bank would assist our students in learning how to save money in a hands on tactile approach (hearing the change jiggle inside the bank, placing coins into a slot, earning money for responsible actions/chores, etc.). Secondly, it will assist our students and parents in understanding the measuring values and importance of money. I've had the opportunity to work with Chase Bank and they had donated banks for the students for two consecutive years. The students responded enthusiastically and it was a great success. Unfortunately, the bank has stopped this project and my students continue to ask about it. I'm hoping that with your support, I am able to continue this project for our students.
