My school is a Title I school where all students qualifying for free lunch and free breakfast. I teach my 25 students in math, language arts, science, and social studies. They are a diverse group of learners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students love to engage in hands-on learning in the classroom.
They love being given opportunities to work together throughout the day. My students have built a great classroom community where everyone is celebrated and has a sense of belonging.
My Project
My students absolutely love to listen to and read picture books. I would like to add to the collection of picture books. We have recently implemented STEM bins in the classroom. The picture books that focus on engineering, creating, building, and problem-solving will be a great addition to our classroom library. The "How to Catch A..." series is a big hit, and I would love to complete the collection.
My students genuinely look forward to sharing a story together as a class.
They love sitting together and being read to then discussing the story as it relates to our reading, language, or social-emotional focus skill. Reading does not always have to be on-level texts read because you "have to". I want my fifth graders to leave this year with a deeper love and enjoyment of reading.
