My Students

Currently we are in the middle of a exciting school year

Students are full of energy and are learning lots about math, science and about life in middle school.

My students are sixth and seventh graders at a urban school. Some students come from low income homes and many receive free or reduced lunch. Several of my students speak English as a second language and come to the classroom with a wide range of abilities.

Sixth grade is the first grade of middle school and students come from various elementary schools with a wide range of experiences. In sixth grade students learn skills to get them through middle school and to be successful in high school.

Seventh grade is the halfway grade, between sixth and eighth grade. Students in seventh grade "know the drill" and what to expect in middle school. They are taking more responsibility and getting ready for eighth grade and high school.

My Project

I am asking for a Polaroid camera and film to take pictures for math class and science class.

Students will be able to take and keep pictures of cool stuff that has to do with math or science.

This enables students to take and keep pictures of science experiments, math projects, outdoor scenes for studying weather and plants and other science topics, documenting examples of how math is in everyday life, the list is endless.

Having a Polaroid camera for students to use for various projects can help the learning to become real for students . Plus with students having to use film, it gives students the chance to think about the picture and why they need to take the picture. Nowadays students are so used to using their phones to take pictures, (and who doesn't have hundreds of pictures on their phones?) students have lost some of the thinking that involves why you need to take a picture in the first place.

Taking pictures with a Polaroid camera with film has many advantages. Our class can't wait to explore.
