We have a diverse population which offers many opportunities, as well as, some challenges. Our faculty is amazing at assisting students through their successes and standing by them through their challenges. My students show respect and enthusiasm, and they are not daunted by a challenge to reach higher and go stronger at their goals. Even our lower to lower middle-class students have a sense of belonging in a school which offers support for all of their basic needs and provides opportunities for our students which they may not have in their home environment.
My Project
Teaching and learning tedious state standards and facts can be hard and frustrating if all you have is a district issued textbook! Adding pictures books to the curriculum gives a story for students to relate to while learning the specifics of the standard.
Our teachers are amazing at making lessons interesting for our students!
They bring in materials they have purchased or aquired to add to their lessons. The students really love to have additional materials added to the lessons because they feel that it makes it more memorable. By having picture books to add to the lessons, this provides differentiated instruction for students who are more visual learners. Having smaller amounts of text can also give students a foundation to build on while learning. Because we are a middle school, we do not have many picture books in our collection and having to borrow them from other schools limits the amount of time the teachers can use them for their standards.
