Picture This! Taking Photos to Support Observational Skill Building
Help me give my students the tools they need to photograph their observations and visual experiments. These cameras will give students tools and experience capturing images of their projects and sharing them with the class and the school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at my school come from a very low-income area; in fact, 50% of the students in my school meet the definition of homeless and more than 90% qualify for free lunches. At the same time, the area is surrounded by the wealth of Silicon Valley, a stark contrast to the poverty my students know. They are the children of hardworking everyday heroes, the dishwashers, the cleaning ladies, the gardeners who work multiple jobs to put food on the table.
These families work hard to provide a better life for their children and our school does the best we can to make education their path out of poverty.
To create an engaging learning environment for my students I need to provide them with basic supplies. My class can support many different kinds of learning. It's a place where all types of learners can shine and feel accomplished. With your help, I can provide these students with art experiences that will help them grow their creative problem-solving skills.
My Project
Students will use digital cameras to photograph their projects in progress and in doing so will be learning to use digital technology as a tool for communicating ideas. They will be able to share their images with classmates and discuss how to label them and present them. They will be applying creative problem-solving skills by determining how to use a camera to communicate their ideas clearly.
Learning to use academic language to talk about their projects and ideas is an important skill for English Language Learners.
Most students at my school are learning English at some level. Taking digital pictures of their work will help motivate them to use academic English to describe and define the work they are doing and the progress they are making with their projects. They will also be able to share their projects with other students in the school.
The more students communicate about their experiments and projects the better their skills become.
