Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I am a scientist." These are the words I constantly hear from 5-year olds that make my job worth it. Students come into my science lab knowing that they are scientists and having a future in environmental science is a reality for them. They are excited to see what they will explore each time they see me. I am teaching the future engineers, geologists, entomologists, wildlife photographers, etc. When they walk in that door for science lab, they are ready to make new discoveries!
My Project
One of my goals as a lab teacher is to guide my students in making and recording their observations effectively. It is important that they understand that these observations are their discoveries and allow them to take ownership of their learning about the world around them. Photographs have become a universal language for our students. They feel comfortable expressing themselves through pictures.
Acquiring the camera and a printer will allow them to immediately record what interests, amazes, and raises more questions.
This nature photography will allow them to appreciate nature and support them in their written observations. The opportunities that this will provide ranges from detailed observations to poetry about nature.
