My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. As a teacher in a low-income area, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with genuine learning opportunities.

My students love to read and I would love to be able give them the opportunity to experience these high interested texts. My students are always wanting to read new books and I would love be able to give them this opportunity.

My Project

My students are diverse learners with a wide range of interests and learning styles. One thing they all love to do is read and listen to picture books! I will use these books to model how writers put thoughts and ideas together to organize their writing. We will publish our own narrative, opinion, and informational books and students will have the opportunity to share their book with their reading buddies.

Theses picture books will get the creative juices flowing and promote friendship, learning from our mistakes, independence, trying new things and will increase the love of reading and writing.

The books in my project have been carefully selected for their multipurpose abilities. They are engaging, full of rich text and vivid illustrations that will help model writer's craft. These picture books will be integrated into reading and writing. I have also requested pocket folders for each of my students to keep and organize their writing. Writing is a process and many students will have more then one piece of writing going at any given time. I truly appreciate your support for writing and the use of picture books to model writing in the classroom.
