This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We live in a technological world. Technology is a very useful educational tool. It has a prominent place in my classroom. I try to go beyond pencil and paper to make learning experiences that are engaging. A digital camera will afford my students many opportunities to integrate technology.
I have 20 energetic five and six year old students in my class.
Our school serves students from prekindergarten to fifth grade. Our school is located in the southeast corridor of East Atlanta. We are a Title 1 school. Many of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
Digital cameras are becoming more and more popular in the classroom. I will use a camera as a tool to help my students explore and understand content. My students love taking pictures as well as being in them. The camera will be integrated in all subjects. In reading, the students will walk around the school taking pictures of things that begins with our letter of the week. We will use the pictures to create a class alphabet book. In science, we will take pictures to document the growth of plants, butterflies, etc. We will use the pictures to illustrate life cycles or stages of growth. In social studies, we will take pictures of important areas around the school. Students will draw a map of the school importing the pictures to show their location. I will use the camera in my writing center to take pictures of things that the students are writing about. Lastly, the students will use the camera to build early math skills. Students will compare, order numbers, and identify shapes.
My students need a digital camera and printer to integrate photography into our daily teaching and learning.
They will take pictures all year long doing special activities to assist with exploring subjects.
