Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach language arts (reading and writing) to 43 migrant children at a Title I, Power 3, Renaissance, ERT (Extended Day) public elementary school in a rural part of our county. Many of these students live in a migrant camp.
They are sweet, thoughtful, hardworking, and have an amazing understanding of the importance of education all of which makes me proud to be their teacher.
They attend school each day with smiles on their faces, eager to learn, and grow.
My Project
Say “cheese.” Picture day is coming and every little girl and boy loves to look their best in their class photo.
Unfortunately, our new students from Puerto Rico, which were displaced by Hurricane Maria, arrived to our classroom with very little and they are in need of new clothing and new shoes for picture day.
Funding this project would put a huge smile on their face. The new shoes and clothing will also help them fit in with their new classmates and make the adjustment process a little bit easier. The items that we chose were picked out by the students and will make them not only smile on picture day but for many weeks to come.
