Picture It: Kids Enjoy Math Through Illustrated Books
My students need 29 picture books to present math concepts in an engaging way. People learn through storytelling and research shows that incorporating literacy is important.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am looking to provide my students with math tools to help them on their journey to thinking like mathematicians!
I work with a dynamic and diverse group of 4th grade students at a Title I public school in the New Orleans metropolitan area.
My students include a large number of English Language Learners (ELLs) and a slightly smaller number of inclusion (special education) students.
My Project
My students absolutely love reading books. Being able to combine that love of reading with math will help increase my students' understanding of math and inevitably transform into a love of math. My students are striving every day to think like mathematicians and problem solvers.
Math is a life-long skill that my students will need.
Allowing students to expand their love of reading to a love of math will only create more opportunities for my students. A love of math will spark curiosity and allow them to become life-long problem solvers.
