This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is special. Floor-to-ceiling windows in every classroom, and a gathering space for all students to meet to celebrate their learning are just a few of the special features. What really makes Center for Inquiry special is, of course, the students. They are inquisitive, diverse, respectful, passionate, and creative. Books inspire them, and they especially love to create conversations surrounding literature.
Brilliance is an understatement when it comes to the students at CFI.
They absolutely love learning, and they are free to learn in their own learning style. They amaze me each day with their questions, how they talk to each other, and what they are able to contribute from their personal lives to their learning.
My Project
The materials I am requesting to fund this project will help students understand some of the many levels of diversity in our world. With everything happening in current events, it is essential that we grow our students to achieve a greater appreciation and understanding of the world around us. Books are the gateway into the world, and they help young learners see the ways in which other people live their lives.
I want my students to be able to use books as a mirror so that they can see themselves in stories; to use books as windows to be able to see someone else's life; and to use books as doors so they are able to step into the shoes of someone who has a life much different than theirs.
This list of diverse texts will be used to support students as they grow older and wiser. I want them to feel like they have traveled without having left their home or school. Books are a safe way for students to learn. Thank you for considering supporting our project!
