Help me give my students a variety of informative books that will inspire dialogue, interest and amazement for the new science topics we're learning.
I have a class full of curious, and excited six year olds. They love to share ideas, and explore new books and games. My class is made up of a variety of students with different needs and varying abilities. My students come to school ready to learn and demonstrate perseverance in their quality of work and eagerness to share their knowledge about an endless number of topics.
I would love to enrich my science and writing lessons with books that help me teach our new science standards, opinion writing, and inspire great conversations among students.
This group really enjoys investigating, illustrating, building, and working together to learn. They immerse themselves in activities where "hands-on" is the theme. Having reading material with masterful illustrations, photography and information written at an appropriate level, will be such an immense help in presenting examples of both narrative and opinion writing, as well as, support the investigative lessons of our new science curriculum.
These books will allow my students to "see" the topics we are learning about, while still being at school. Science and writing can be so abstract without good models and examples to observe. Books rich with text features and appropriately leveled text are so important for bringing the topic to life.
Through these books, my students will be able to "see" similarities and differences between adult animals and their young, "see" what the moon looks like a various stages, as well as the planets, and "see" examples of various new vocabulary we'll learn.
Gathering on the floor to read aloud a new book with great illustrations and text is like opening a present. The students don't know what will come next, but watching the anticipation and the excitement when they hear and see it, makes teaching fun!
