Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my class come with a wide range of abilities, interests, and needs. In our integrated classroom, we have respect and understanding that each individual is different, yet equally important.
My students understand that in our class, everyone gets what they need to be successful.
One common goal we all share is motivation for learning in a fun, comfortable, and engaging classroom environment. With this, we are able to meet the needs of all the different learners at the same time.
My Project
In my classroom, students have a wide range of skills and abilities. One of the widest range of abilities are in reading.
Students in my 4th grade class range from first grade reading levels to fifth grade reading levels.
Encouraging some of the reluctant, lower reading level students to read at home can be challenging. Students that struggle to read some of the higher readers are reluctant to take out books that they can read because they are embarrassed. One thing I have noticed, is that students get excited about reading to their younger siblings. Encouraging my students to read to their families can spark desire to read and encourage motivation.
I am requesting picture books that younger readers will enjoy. Such titles include "Oh, the places you'll go" by Dr. Seuss, "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak, and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", by Eric Carle.
