I have twenty-three, amazing students! I work at a Title I school. These energetic children are enthusiastic and motivated learners. My pupils have a unique variety of abilities, interests and learning styles. In kindergarten, it is developmentally appropriate to have lessons where the kids have opportunities to interact hands-on and creatively. In kindergarten, we must focus on rigorous academics, free play, creativity and developing fine and gross motor skills. I use Donors Choose to supplement the district's curriculum to enhance my students’ learning.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of books for story-time. Many of these books were found in an article covering the best books to teach kindness. This article depicted kindness in a variety of ways. I believe teaching kindness, diversity, and self acceptance should be a subject in school and a high priority in children's homes. Children's books are sometimes the best way to prompt and introduce serious conversations on important topics. These books include: "Extra Yarn", "Ribbit", "The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade", "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon", "I am Jazz" "Peace is an Offering", "Sparkle Boy", and "I Walk With Vanessa".
Some of the other books I requested are by authors my students love or I thought would be a great addition to our classroom library.
These books include, "Nobody Hugs A Cactus", "Bear Came Along", "Cool Bean", "The Egg Escape", "The Serious Goose", "Naughty Ninja Takes A Bath", and "I am Helen Keller".
I threw in a package of Clorox wipes because we can constantly use these to help keep our room healthy and clean.
Books are such an important part of early childhood education, encouraging literacy, and foundation of financial literacy. Studies show that exposing children to literature improves their literacy skills in a multitude of ways.
Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and public schools.
