Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With a school where over 50% of students identify as Latinx, our library collection has less than 10% Latinx representation. Part of this is due to the fact that Latinx authors and illustrators are underrepresented in the United States and another part is to due the abundance of animal fiction.

Latinx students need to see Latinx characters, authors, and illustrators to help students feel empowered and believe that anything they put their energy and effort into is possible.

My goal is to add as many quality books written and illustrated by Latinx and other people of color to our library every year until the representation in the library collection more closely represents our student population.
