Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in a very diverse district. In our community, families don't have a lot of money to provide children with a lot of extras. The parents work hard just to make ends meet. In fact, many of our students must attend our after-school program so their parents have more time to work. That makes for a long day for my little friends.
My students are an enthusiastic group of second graders in a high poverty community in Northern California.
Many of them are second-language learners. They come to school every day eager to learn. However, sometimes they have a bit too much energy and have difficulty staying still and respecting the personal space of others.
My Project
Some students, especially young ones like mine, have a difficult time sitting still or staying in their seat. They have so much energy and don't know how to control it. Sometimes they literally fall out of their chairs.
My students can choose whether they sit in a stool or in a chair.
If they choose a chair, they can add a stability balance disc or a bouncy band. They will also have the option of sitting on the floor with a portable lap desk during independent work time.
In addition, as a STEM school we use our chromebooks quite frequently. We need new headphones that aren't falling apart or have exposed wires.
