My students need flexible seating throughout the room to engage in reading whether by themselves or with a partner. The cushions are soft, comfortable, and easy to clean.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach about 20 1st graders. Our school is a Title 1, inner city school. We qualify for a program where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students love school and are eager to learn. They have started to read and are so excited to share their accomplishment.
My students love learning in groups and working together to increase their skills in reading and speaking.
My students are energetic and excited about a new school year. I hope to inspire them so that they continue this love of learning and become life long learners!
My Project
My biggest goal as a teacher is for my students to have a passion for reading. I want them to be able to find a quiet spot any where in the classroom, pick a comfy cushion, relax and read. I want my students to enjoy reading whether by themselves or with a friend. I believe students should have choices when it comes to learning and I want to provide opportunities to make those choices. Not only do I want my students to be excited to read, but I also want my classroom to have an atmosphere that displays a love for reading.
