My students need Seat Sack chair pockets to practice organizational skills, which will increase student success in math, literacy, and daily life skill routines.
Teaching in a low-income/ poverty school brings challenges each day. For many students, school is the safe place with the most stability they have ever known. Students experience a structured routine, where they know they will receive lunch plus a healthy snack and are greeted daily by consistent, caring staff. My goal is to make school a place where everyone is welcome, valued, and encouraged, regardless of where they come from.
Many of my students come from homes where parents are struggling to provide for their families off of minimum wage.
The majority of families receive free school lunch and many participate in the backpack food weekend program. Due to limited resources, my students often do not have the same opportunities, experiences, school supplies, or materials available to them that students in other schools may have.
My Project
Organizational skills have been supported in educational research time and again to be an essential element in the success of a child’s educational experience. Organizational strategies learned in school are a key factor in life success.
The earlier organizational skills are introduced, the greater the potential for success both in and outside the school setting.
When school-age children are taught organizational skills, they learn to break big challenges into smaller manageable events. Organizational skills help students identify and set priorities. Children with strong organization skills can often follow directions without even thinking about it. Organization skills enable kids to come up with a plan and follow through to get work done.
Tools like seat sack chair pockets can help kids practice organizational skills on a daily basis. Students will use the seat sack chair pockets throughout the school day to keep track of their school tools such as crayons, pencils, writing notebooks and math journals. With necssary school supplies housed in the students seat sacks, students will have easy and quick access to everything needed throughout the school day. No more time wasted searching for missing crayons or misplaced papers as the routine has been established... school supplies are used and then returned to the seat sack chair pocket. Through the consistent, daily use of seat sack chair pockets, students will recognize that everything has a place. Students will develop spatial awareness skills as they learn to keep necessary supplies in the designated space, their seat sack chair pocket.
