I work with a fantastic group of third graders. My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
Our class is made up of students with all different personalities and abilities.
Many of the students in our classroom are English language learners, have special needs, or come from challenging backgrounds. Despite the differences in my students, they have something in common: they all love to learn! My wonderful kids work so hard day in and day out to learn reading, math, and other subjects. I feel my students deserve the best of everything! They are a super bunch of kids!
My Project
By providing a book for each student, I am helping them to start their own personal library. The books I am requesting are written at many different reading levels and will fill many different interests. On his or her birthday, each student will be able to pick a book from our Birthday Book Box! It will be a book that they chose and therefore, they will be more likely to read it multiple times. It will also give them a sense of caring and belonging, knowing that their school and teacher gave them their very own book.
I feel it is so important for kids to have books at home, especially books they enjoy and are able to read independently.
The funding of this proposal will help me start a Birthday Book Box that will continue year after year, bringing literacy into the homes of countless children!
