Picasso plus Second Grade Artists equals An Amazing Mother's Day Project
My students need tag board, art supplies, display easels, and 7 books about the art of Pablo Picasso so my students can create their own portrait masterpieces to give as unique Mother's Day presents.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Art supplies can provide many things for my students. They can allow my students to fuel their imaginations, express their emotions, and create beautiful art projects.
I have a wonderful class of second graders.
Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in the family to finish high school and, hopefully, college too. Most of my students are English learners. I also have several students with learning disabilities. I mainstream several students with learning disabilities into my all-inclusive classroom. In addition, I partner for enrichment activities with a third grade buddy class and a class of hard of hearing students and they will also participate in this project.
My Project
This project will allow my students to be introduced to the amazing life and masterpieces of Pablo Picasso. It will allow me to combine Language Arts and art together as we learn about this amazing artist. I will start this project by reading the books about Pablo Picasso to my class and then I will show them the copies of his famous paintings. Next, my students will learn how to draw their own portrait in the Picasso style. They will then be encouraged to add different colors and their own creativity to create their own masterpieces. We will use the Mod Podge to coat their masterpiece and attach it to the tag board. The mini easels will be used to display their finished portraits which will then be given to their mothers as a very unique Mother's Day present.
This project will allow my students to learn about Pablo Picasso and get the experience of creating their own unique portrait in the style of Picasso.
These supplies will enrich my curriculum, empower my students through art, and allow my students to become excited about what they are learning! They will be able to use their creativity to create a special handmade present that they can proudly give to their mothers. I'm sure this project will give my students wonderful memories of their time in second grade and it will give their mothers a special gift that they will treasure for many years to come.
