Some of the older students at my school are finding it difficult to connect to music class in a positive matter. Using these pianos, I am hoping to allow them access to other types of music that they can connect to more. These pianos will be used primarily in grades 5-12. The older elementary students (5-6) will be using the pianos to challenge themselves musically. They will learn how to play the piano, while also learning more complicated theory, and compose songs of there own. In the high school setting they will be used in the Musical Exploration class mostly. This class is a non-performances based class that allows students to explore any part of music they want. The pianos can connect to the students' computers and allow them to explore digital composition.
While I have plenty of resources to excite and instill creativity in the younger students, I believe the older students (5-12) will thrive while being able to learn to play the piano, and create musical works of their own.
The few pianos I have currently in my classroom were not stored appropriately, and half of them don't work any more. These pianos are small, easy to store, and comes with quality headphones for individual student work time. I am hoping to use these pianos to revitalize and rebuild the music program at a small K-12 school.
