This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My third grade inner-city general ed students love music. All our students are 100% lunch-funded, which means that ours is a high-need school.
There was a time when music was a part of every school's curriculum. The problem is that with all the budget cuts, Arts have been the first programs to be eliminated. Somehow we manage to fit them in. We sing and dance our math problems, and when we act out reading strategies, we use music for that, too. But it is difficult to give formal music training without a piano keyboard.
We need a piano keyboard so that our students can learn to read music, to harmonize, and to understand the importance of having music in their lives.
Your contribution will help to ensure that these wonderful, talented students will be able to understand and value music. They deserve to have formal music training. They deserve excellence!
