Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school students who participate in our music program. Our high school serves a large, urban area of Chicago, IL, and has a high percentage of students from low-income homes. Our student body is culturally diverse and provides our school community an opportunity to experience music and customs from many cultures as we interact every day. Creating and encouraging music learning opportunities for our diverse student population promotes inclusion and diversity in our educational programs.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to explore and experience high-quality music instruction outside of the school setting.
It is exciting to see my students grow in their knowledge and excitement of music. Many of our students will continue their participation in the music program for three or four years during high school.
My Project
Our school started a new keyboard class last year. My students are dedicated, hardworking, and are interested in exploring new ways of using their keyboard skills to experience music. We are asking for an electronic Nord Stage Keyboard to give our students alternative and creative keyboard music learning experiences. Nord keyboards are a music industry standard that you will see onstage at various concert venues. This Nord keyboard will give my students an opportunity to experience sampled music sounds and audio sound editing.
Many of my students will never have the opportunity to experience this kind of keyboard instruction outside of the school setting.
Providing them with keyboard instruction will open up so many opportunities to experience music. My students are creative and determined. I know that once they experience success at various levels of keyboard playing they will reach for even higher levels of success.
Help my students experience music learning in practical and meaningful ways as they participate in keyboard instruction designed for their own abilities and interested in music.
