Future doctors, business leaders, politicians and scientists learn in my classroom. Providing my students the best and memorable experience learning is my utmost concern as an educator.
My school is in a diverse community where kids from all walks of life come to learn.
As diverse as my students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. My school is also taking the first steps towards STEM education, teaching students to strategize and problem-solve when given a problem.
My Project
Raspberry Pi is a computer designed to teach students how to code, use Basic computer language, and costs a fraction of traditional computers. In the tech world, the Raspberry Pi is a bit like a Swiss army knife - a small tool (the size of a credit card) that can do almost endless jobs. One of the best things about the Raspberry Pi is that all the programs associated with it are completely and totally free. I am looking to get four kits to have my students start programming and coding from scratch.
By using Raspberry Pi computers, my students will see that it does not take a gifted computer genius to be able to write code, program in Basic, or build a computer from scratch - a 9/10 year old can do it with a little background knowledge.
We have already spent a great deal of time coding with Code.org. I am wanting to show my students that coding and programming goes beyond a website. By obtaining the Raspberry Pi computers, I will start taking the steps in preparing my students for future careers in the competitive field of technology, demonstrating that programming can be done on all levels regardless of expertise.
