My students are eager to learn but are limited in resources. These 856 students live in a rural area where enrichment and engaging activities are limited, and the only place they have access to these kinds of activities is school. We are a Title I school with 100% of our students qualifying for free or reduced price meals. Students took a survey so I would dive deeper on their reading interest and target what they want to ready.
Engaging in hands-on application and experience, like experiencing Physics through sports rather than being lectured is very powerful.
Real-world learning brings the benefits of formal and informal education together and reinforces the most meaningful learning occurs through acquiring knowledge and skills through real-life, practical or hands-on activities. Sometimes these students do not have time time to stay after school or join a sport, and this project will allow them to experience sports and learning physics, health, math, and science. All in one.
In this project, my students will tie together all of the physics principles they have learned about in order to describe what’s going on in one simple action. They will analyze this motion using graphing, kinematics formulas, forces (Newton’s Laws), momentum, work, energy and power.
Instead of studying each concept individually, they will be experiencing sports, health, team playing and fitness in one big lesson.
The lesson will be powerful and engaging. Students will be able to explain and analyze each concept of motion within each one of the sports they get to experience. They will be working in teams
