Physics Meets Sphero Robots

My students need Sphero ramps, chariots, and nubby covers to protect our robots and incorporate physics and engineering design concepts into our robotics curriculum.

My Students

Ranging in grades Kindergarten-5th, my students are a curious, creative, and diverse group of highly-capable learners. Unique in their learning styles and interests, they share a common love of discovery.

My students share an insatiable appetite for hands-on, inquiry-based explorations and thrive when faced with a challenge and allowed the freedom to create.

My students are split between two public elementary schools, one a K-5 school, and the other a K-2 school. I absolutely love my job, and am energized by my students every day!

My Project

As part of a recent computer science device grant that I was awarded, my program was able to purchase a SPRK+ Education kit with 12 Sphero robots. This kit is amazing, except...

Our Sphero kit is lacking the nubby covers that protect our robots and allow them to roll on the varied floors of our school.

I'd also like to incorporate more physics and engineering design concepts into my robotics curriculum. By varying the type of cover on Sphero (nubby cover, turbo cover, and no cover) my students can determine the velocity, acceleration and the friction under different conditions.

The ramps, chariots, and terrain park will allow my students to create additional challenge courses that offer hands-on experience with concepts such as momentum, gravity, mass, force and friction.
