Physics Lab - Nowhere to Plug Our Probeware

My students need an interface that they can connect a Vernier motion detector to for Physics labs.

My Students

Our Physics classes don't have blocked time (double periods) for labs, so squeezing in labs is really tough. Using probeware would speed up the process of data collection allowing us to do more. We already have a Vernier motion sensor, but nothing to connect it to.

Our school is the smallest in the county, one of the smallest in the state, and our poverty rate is around 40%.

Our entire district is housed in one building and we only have 10 students taking Physics this year. They are an amazing group of kids and I really want them to have the same learning opportunities that students studying Physics in larger, wealthier districts have.

My Project

Having an interface for our motion probe would allow us to conduct labs that would normally take 2-3 days of class time in a single period. Right now we don't do nearly as many lab exercises as we should because they cut into class time so greatly. If we have an interface, hopefully we can build on that to acquire a small collection of probeware for Physics. This would allow our students do many many more (as well as more in-depth) laboratory explorations without sacrificing too much class time to labs.

I have students who want to study science and engineering in college.

Supporting this project will help those students receive a more complete and sophisticated foundation in their science eduction so they will not be lagging academically compared to their peers when they go to college.
