My Students

Our Title I high school services over 650 students, with about 63% representing minority groups, 55% at risk, and 22% Limited English Proficient.

My students make my life have meaning, so I work to give meaning to their learning.

My physics students strive to achieve and to learn; however, many lack exposure to educational "life" experiences due to our school's location and resources. In addition to being several hours from large cities, many of my students do not have the economic resources to travel for tours, camps, museums, and other educational experiences. I intentionally bring real-world experience to my students through technology and lab experiments.

My Project

No matter how many times I say, "You use physics every day," students don't believe me! My project, Physics is SWEET!, will give them an example they never forget! We will tie a physics lesson in with the chemistry class. The cotton candy machine will show many physics and chemical processes in action. Newton's Laws will be demonstrated. For example, as the floss leaves the center, it travels in a straight line until it's made to turn. In addition to linear motion, the students will be able to investigate and distinguish the difference between angular and circular motion. Students won't forget this lab!
