Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a mix of personalities. Some are shy and others are gregarious. Some are serious and some are goofy. They are still testing out their personas, so to speak, but they are a tough bunch. Maybe they have to be since we are located in the South Bronx. We are a Title I school in a not yet gentrified area. It is unfortunate that our students have to walk past addicts and discarded drug paraphernalia on their way to school.
Our school provides them with a sanctuary that allows them to grow and learn.
We are 6-12 school so we have the opportunity to watch these students grow from children to young adults. Since we are a relatively small school, we get to know the students, their siblings, and their families. There is a good sense of community at our school.
My Project
Since transitioning from in person classes to remote learning, one of the biggest losses is the difficulty incorporating hands-on labs into my physics classes. While we try to do some experiments with common materials that students may be able to find at home, many have become virtual labs. My students miss handling physical lab materials and seeing the direct results of their actions.
Many of these lab experiences cannot be replicated through virtual labs.
The Nasco Physics Lab Kit is a well-packaged portable container designed for non-conventional lab situations such as remote learning, or any situation that calls for an uncompromised lab experience without the need for a traditional lab facility.
The Kit contains everything necessary to perform 33 physics experiments. These hands-on physics experiments are designed to incline the student toward becoming a scientific innovator. They are safe for students and the environment. Every experiment clearly teaches a scientific principle. The included equipment has been developed to produce successful results and give the student an educationally challenging hands-on learning experience.
In addition to the Nasco Physics Lab Kit, there are Snap Circuit Kits and Electroninks Writeables Circuit Scribe Basic Kits that will help my students see the flow of electrons more easily than they would through schematics.
