Physics and Creativity go Hand in Hand!

My Students

My students learn science much better if they can do a fun project such as a poster to help them learn.

My students are typical urban high school students.

They are interested in learning skills that will help them in college and the workplace. They are particularly eager to learn physics concepts that apply to the world around them and get very enthused when we tie class materials into things they are interested in such as cooking, music, cars, art and space. My students love to actually "do" science and learn best by hands-on activities where they are actually involved in manipulating the various variables we are dealing with. They are very creative and would rather do a fancy poster about a concept than write about it.

My Project

My class will use the paper and glue sticks I have requested to do poster projects on the physics concepts that we are learning in class. I hope to have them do one on waves, light and the electromagnetic spectrum before the end of the year. Besides learning about physics they will be learning about how to make a professional presentation. Hopefully they will also be learning something about themselves such as what a great project they can put together if they have the materials and spend the time.

By having the materials to make professional looking posters my students will be better able to express what they are learning about physics concepts, and they will also learn about making professional-looking presentations.
