I am not a P.E. teacher, but I must teach P.E. to my 32 fourth-grade students! Kickball with 32 students is not the most exciting game. I therefore need to come up with something new to do. I am concerned that many children aren't getting the exercise they need, and I want to do something that gets everyone moving. My answer to the problem: P.E. stations. These could be quite simple to set up and to explain to the students. Yet, because they are doing different activities for a limited amount of time, the centers will keep the students involved and active. Center 1 - Snowball Fight (Using lightweight fleece balls in a limited area, they can throw the balls at each other in a mock snowball fight.) Center 2 - Hula Hoops (The students can use them the traditional way, as well as "jump rope" with them and roll/chase the hoops.) Center 3 - Foam Footballs (Throwing a football is good for hand-eye coordination, as well as for general exercise. If we use soft ones, those who haven't thrown footballs much will be more likely to give it a try.) Center 4 - Super Catch (These are Velcro pads with which the students can catch the tennis ball more easily.) We will do each center approximately 8 - 10 minutes and then switch. I can use these P.E. materials many times, and I know the students will enjoy P.E. a lot more than another day of kickball. Thanks very much for your consideration.
