Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
GES is a small rural town in Northern Colorado. Most people don't give this town a second look as they drive by, but it has a diverse and close-nit community.
GES students love to move and try new things.
When you watch them play it reminds me of a classic 50's era movie. The level of satisfaction they have for the simpler things in life is so refreshing and something that you don't often see at other schools. They are imaginative, creative, and very eager to learn.
My Project
It is unknown what our school year might look like next fall. As a physical educator, I am worried about how I am going to effectively teach my students with the possible restrictions that states and districts are considering for the 2020/21 school year. Limited class sizes, no sharing equipment/supplies, desks that are 6 feet apart, etc.
As an educator, these are the times when we need to dig in deep and adapt and overcome.
I want to give my kids a quality lesson where they are moving their bodies in a number of ways. If these restrictions do go into effect, I want to be prepared, and that is why I have chosen to introduce my students to world of Drum Fitness.
Drum Fitness addresses students' physical, social/emotional, and intellectual needs, making fitness easy to teach and a blast to learn! Drum Fitness covers so many national and state standards for Physical Education and Music. Drum Fitness is cross-curricular, fully inclusive and allows students to be moving and learning while maintaining an appropriate distance from their classmates.
School could look very different in the fall, but even when life goes back to normal Drum Fitness will be an activity that all K-5 elementary students will benefit from for years to come.
