Help me give my students a Sony digital camera to explore how creative outlets like photography can support and improve their mental and emotional wellness.
In our Counseling Enriched Classroom (Special Education), each student has an IEP that supports their mental and emotional wellness. Despite some immense struggles, our classroom is full of students who prove every day to be some of the most resilient at our high school.
In our classroom, we share our culture, interests and hard work with each other as a community.
Each student brings a unique background into the classroom, and we strive to find overlapping struggles, interests, passions, and goals. One student likes to build in their engineering class, and they are constantly searching for opportunities to build in our classroom as well. Another enjoys making jewelry and practices generosity by bringing homemade gifts to class. We have a student that dives into Asian culture through music and performance, and another that, no matter what they are doing, they are always drawing! Together, our classroom is comprised of a many inspiring students, and each learns in their own unique way.
Because our curriculum involves a lot of community building and therapy, we are constantly spending time and funds enriching our classroom with art projects, field trips and other healthy forms of coping and education.
My Project
We have created a curriculum for the students to fulfill their required art credits. We have already started the unit but would like to improve our supplies. Right now, students are using their phones, some of which are not in the best shape or do not capture photos that match up with their incredible ability to capture the beauty!
