My students need the 6 SD cards and tripod to work with the cameras we were able to get earlier this year to create art projects.
"Could I take pictures Mr Sachs?" Words I hear often. Both from my ESL students and others in the school. We've been lucky enough late last year to get six cameras to help create visual projects and learn a fun skill and build acquired vocabulary. Also, the Photo/tech club could use the cameras.
This year my students are from the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, more girls then boys.
Three of them are in the project's posted picture. They are all good kids, excellent students who do their best to achieve their academic goals. Several have a very limited English backgrounds and a few live in and out of public shelters. They all like to express themselves creatively, especially with pictures, mostly photos. Some have told me that because I am also a photographer they want to do photo work as well as be part of the school's yearbook and year end photo presentation team. The school I teach in is a public inner city elementary school grades PreK-5. It is located in an economically disadvantaged section of The Bronx. It is entitled to title 1 and title 3 grant money but is still underfunded. The budget is a yearly issue . The school has 541 students of multi-ethnic backgrounds form many different countries
Late last year, The school was lucky enough to get six cameras to use for various activities as well as to document everything that went on in the school from graduations to assembly's to trips. As an ESL teacher I always wanted to use photos to help teach various parts of English both verbal and written. Further, to achieve this, I have envisioned my students being very creative and make photo projects. After studying a unit on body parts my thoughts would be that the students would take photos of themselves. When the photos were printed, the beginners could label each body part. Or, the more advanced students could write a story about the photos taken. Other non ESL classes, especially the tech /computer classes can use the cameras to which include video, to make stop action animation projects or take photos and on the computer learn how to manipulate the and edit them. Finally, the students could learn all aspects of good pictures taking.
Getting the cameras and related supplies was a nice surprise last year.
The students really liked taking pictures, learning all aspects of photography. To use the equipment the kids became better students, academically, etc "They loved being creative". Like many things, in time, equipment breaks, parts gets lost. That is what happened here. Thus the need for a new tripod and additional SD cards for the cameras. This way we can continue to get maximum use and benefits from all photo equipment.Read More
