Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Photo journalism students without photos, it does not make sense, does it? Right now my students are becoming fabulous journalists with creating their newspaper articles but we would like to take it a step further with adding photos to the mix.
My students are 30 8th graders at a low socioeconomic neighborhood that is almost all ELL student population.
These students are active in their school community and want to showcase their abilities in sports, music, art, and more off to the world with the use of a school newspaper and hopefully being able to take photos to sport that newspaper as well.
My Project
Right now my students are creating newspapers, but I would also like them to create photo stories with cameras and a color printer that could help share their stories with others and get their viewpoints across as well. With the materials we are requesting students will be able to take in depth photo documentaries to match their journalist viewpoints as well as print those photos off for display and publishing purposes.
These students do not have computers at home, or printers, or digital cameras.
They do have huge hearts and want to make an impact on others though. With the materials we are requesting being able to bridge a poverty gap to allow these students to be creative and explore more areas with technology you will be opening many more doors to their future educations.
