I teach in a city high school that is 70% minority and our students need exposure to activities away from videos and TV. They need to learn about the possibilities of careers beyond day to day labor. We need to make their classroom learning experiences relevant to the lives they lead outside of school. Pictures lead to exploration of all kinds of people, places, and events. Writing , research, and communication can all start with a picture. I have found five sites within twenty five miles of the school where I can expose my students to great photography. I need $75 per trip for an activity bus. The opportunities are at a nearby college who have a first class photo lab and a great professor who will make a presentation, a nearby park with waterfalls and great landscape, and a sculpture garden. I would like to take my spring photo class on a trip each six weeks of the spring semester. I can keep the kids motivated with this as a goal each grading period and enhance thier ability to look at their world with a new vision. You have to be in interesting places or situations to get great photos. I want to take my kids to those places.
