Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title 1 school where twelve out of the sixteen students in my room are speakers of another language. The students struggle with learning to read and write, but are eager and excited to learn. Many come from homes where very little English is spoken, so parents are not able to help them. Many do not have books in their homes. Despite these setbacks, students love reading but struggle to learn the letters, sounds, sight words, and word families. Getting phonics and sight word centers in a variety of different learning styles in reading will increase students’ understanding and make learning difficult reading skills fun and engaging!
My Project
These materials will help my students have visuals to help assist them as English Language Learners (ELL) to learn phonics, word families and how to TAP CVC words.
English Language Learners have a very difficult time translating their first language to their their second language (English) without visuals to assist them.
The pictures associated with these materials will be so beneficial and fun too! The Fill in the Blank Phonics Stamps will help my students see the picture, as well as part of the word. The Touch & Read Phonics Match will help the students work on their Fundations skills known as TAPping. My students LOVE to learn and these items will make them even more excited and build their confidence in their abilities to read and sound out words.
