My students need materials for small group & partner activities. The Literacy center activities and the magnetic foam letters and objects will help my struggling readers learn phonics that is fun & engaging!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When students experience challenges in their lives it makes it difficult to focus at school! My students are from low income high poverty community. They either have a single parent, foster, homeless or living on a single income. The range of disabilities include Autism, ADHD and learning disabilities.
In spite of their disabilities, they are very motivated and excited to learn!
Our school is a Title 1 School receiving 100% free lunch, serving African American and Latino students. We strive to prepare our students to be college and career ready and one way is to teach them about taking charge of their own learning. That whatever challenges their home and community brings, school will still be a safe haven for them.
My Project
The magnetic foam alphabet and objects will be used to help match uppercase and lowercase letters. It will also be used to identify the initial sounds of pictures and objects. This will help them master their letter and sounds which helps them to be a better reader. The different phonic games like purr digraphs and blends; and long vowel mats will help target specific skills like words with blend, digraphs and long vowels. These 3 skills are the hardest skill to master and my students are having a hard time being fluent on the above mentioned skills.
In spite of their learning disabilities, my students are very eager to learn.
They may have different processing disorders but I know they will do their best to master those skills toimprove their reading.
Literacy centers and phonics games helps me target skills and close the gaps in reading in a fun, motivating and engaging way!
