My students are wonderful, fun, unique kids with autism who work hard every day on their academic, social, and behavior skills. Because of the language delays that are associated with autism, they need extra practice and additional learning activities to increase their phonemic awareness.
Hands on phonics materials will give my students what they need to succeed.
The ability to recognize rhyming words, build words with manipulatives, substitute sounds in words, and recognize beginning and ending sounds will improve my students' phonemic awareness which is an important part of learning to read.
My Project
The Touch and Read Phonics Math-Complete Set includes CVC words, blends, digraphs, and vowel sounds. Each word card includes textured dots for tactile input. Snap Together Letter Blocks will allow students to engage in word play while using fine motor skills. Phonemic Awareness Match Ups are self-correcting which will allow students independence while working.
Students with autism tend to learn best with hands on, visually based materials.
These colorful, engaging materials will hold their attention much better than a paper and pencil task alone.
Students will be able to use these materials one on one with an adult, or in small groups with classmates which would allow for additional social interactions with their peers.
