Help me give my students explicit ways to learn phonics! The phonics resources requested will allow my first graders to learn different phonics patterns through pictures, words, and practice.
My students are creative and full of energy! I teach at a Title I school where many of the students come from low-income families. My first graders come to school eager to learn, but often lacking necessary background information and reading skills needed to help them succeed.
Learning to read is a core focus in first grade.
My first graders love stories and are anxious to better understand how to read these stories by themselves.
Extra support from explicit, hands-on phonics instruction is just what they need to build their foundation for future reading.
My Project
First grade is where students learn the basics of phonics and reading. Different phonics patterns in words can be hard for students to learn and understand.
Learning phonics and and how to read needs to be fun and engaging through practice and visual representations.
The phonics flip books and phonics match games will allow my first graders to see the patterns in words as they learn how to read them. The whiteboards and stamps will allow my students to practice writing the words we are learning, while the teaching tubs will allow my students (specifically English Language Learners) to see these examples in real life objects!
These phonics resources will allow my students to visually see the phonics patterns in words while practicing to read and write. This practice will transfer to their reading skills and build a foundation for their future reading.
