What is there not to love when you spend your day with 25 six and seven year olds? Every day is a new learning experience filled with curiosity and eagerness to persevere! Teaching in an inner city school in upstate NY, I have found that children at this age are sponges, that are always eager to learn and explore new things!
I have 25 first grade students coming from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds, 100% of whom receive free lunch.
In addition, I have several ENL students who speak a variety of languages. I am so excited to engage this year's class! My goal is to help each child move into the 21st century by providing a classroom rich in engaging, hands-on materials and lessons.
My Project
Rime Magic is a word-recognition kit that helps children learn to see the natural segmentation patterns of a written word. Using this intervention kit will assist my students with their phonic and decoding skills. This will allow them to become stronger, fluent readers. It will build their self confidence as they read and build the foundation to become lifetime readers. As they become better readers, they will become better at academics across all curriculums.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to provide the Magic Rime resource for my class.
I am excited to watch them grow with their reading skills and improve in all academic areas! In addition to the Magic Rime kit, I am asking for a set of Magic Erase pens. Children love using dry erase pens throughout the school day. At this grade level, though, children are still learning to use markers so they dry out quickly and do not last as long.
